The best birthday flowers depend on age. Kids love fun, bright designs, teens and twenty-somethings like trendy wrapped bouquets, adults appreciate roses and elegant mixed arrangements, and older loved ones often prefer long-lasting plants or soft, classic bouquets. In Houston, you can get same-day birthday flower delivery when you order by 1 PM, Monday to Friday, or early Saturday morning.
We’re Floral Concepts, a family-owned Houston florist that has been designing birthday flowers since 1969. Birthdays are our busiest everyday occasion, and the question we hear most is “What would they like?” Here’s our age-by-age guide.

Birthday Flowers by Age
Kids (ages 1 to 12)
Fun beats formal. Bright colors, flower animals, small bouquets with a balloon, or a little arrangement in a colorful mug they can keep. Gerbera daisies and sunflowers look cheerful and are sturdy enough for small hands. Skip lilies if there’s a cat at home, since they’re toxic to cats.
Teens (ages 13 to 19)
Teens love flowers that look great in photos. Wrapped bouquets in trendy colors, pastel roses or a bold single color work well. For a sweet 16 or a quinceañera, many Houston families choose a large rose bouquet; see our
rose delivery in Houston options.
Twenties and thirties
Modern and personal. Think garden-style mixed bouquets, a statement rose arrangement for a partner, or a plant for a new apartment. If you’re sending to a friend’s office, choose something compact enough for a desk.
Forties and fifties
Elegant and generous. Roses, lilies and hydrangeas in a classic vase, or one rose for every year for a milestone like 40 or 50. Rich colors such as deep pink, burgundy and gold feel celebratory without being too young.
Sixties and seventies
Comfort and beauty that lasts. Soft mixed bouquets, orchids and
plants are popular because they stay beautiful for weeks. A favorite flower from their own garden is a thoughtful touch.
Eighties and beyond
Keep it easy to enjoy. A medium arrangement already in a vase, lightly scented, and simple to care for. If they live in a senior community or are in the hospital, check the delivery rules first; for hospitals, see
hospital flower delivery in Houston.

Surprise Tips: Home, Office or School?
Office: the most popular choice for adults, because everyone sees them arrive. Most Houston office towers route flowers through the front desk, so include the suite number and a contact.
Home: best for a personal moment. Add a phone number so we never leave flowers outside in the heat.
School: many schools don’t allow deliveries to classrooms. Send to the home instead, or check with the school office first.
Keeping it a surprise: tell us not to call the recipient, and we’ll contact you if we need help finding the address.
Birthday Card Messages by Age
Kids: “Happy birthday to our favorite little star! Love you to the moon.”
Teens: “Happy 16th! Here’s to your best year yet.”
Friends: “Another trip around the sun! So glad I get to celebrate you.”
Partner: “Happy birthday to the one who makes every day better.”
Parents: “Thank you for every birthday you made special for me. Happy birthday, Mom.”
Grandparents: “Happy birthday to the heart of our family. We love you.”
