Hospital Flower Policies in Houston

Memorial Hermann and HCA Houston Healthcare publish clear restrictions on flowers in intensive care. Here is what each hospital system says on its own website:

Memorial Hermann

Memorial Hermann’s patient guide says fresh flowers and plants are not allowed in several patient units, including ICUs, because they may carry germs that are dangerous to patients. At Memorial Hermann Katy, flowers and balloons are not permitted in the ICU and CCU. Hospital gift shops can deliver to patient rooms.

HCA Houston Healthcare

HCA Houston Healthcare West, Clear Lake, Southeast and Tomball all state that flowers are not permitted in the ICU; Clear Lake and Southeast also exclude plants and balloons there. At HCA West, staff deliver flowers to patient rooms and the hospital notes that large arrangements are hard to deliver and remove at discharge. HCA North Cypress returns flowers that arrive after a patient is discharged to the florist, and asks visitors to check before bringing items like flowers or balloons that could trigger allergies.

St. Luke’s Health and Baylor St. Luke’s

St. Luke’s Health asks visitors to check before bringing flowers, perfumes or balloons that may disturb other patients.

Houston Methodist

Houston Methodist’s online patient guide does not list a specific flower rule. Because ICUs at other Houston hospitals restrict flowers, check with the unit or the family before sending to an ICU patient at any Methodist location.

The rules that apply almost everywhere

No fresh flowers or plants in ICUs, and often not in units for patients with weak immune systems.
Latex balloons are widely restricted because of latex allergies; foil (Mylar) balloons are sometimes allowed outside intensive care.
Smaller arrangements are easier for staff to deliver and for patients to take home.

How to Send Flowers to a Houston Hospital

Check the unit. Ask the family or the hospital whether the patient is in a regular room or an ICU.
Order by 1 PM, Monday to Friday, online or at (281) 729-8866. On Saturday, order early in the morning.
Give us the details: the patient’s first and last name, the hospital name and campus (for example, Memorial Hermann Katy, not just Memorial Hermann), the room number if you have it, and your phone number.
We deliver to the hospital. Most Houston hospitals have staff or volunteers take flowers from the front desk to the patient’s room.

If the patient has been discharged

We call you and redeliver the flowers to the patient’s home. Some hospitals, such as HCA North Cypress, return flowers to the florist when a patient has already gone home, so a phone number on your order matters.

Best Flowers for a Hospital Room

We design hospital flowers to be compact, lightly scented and already in a vase, so they fit a small bedside table and don’t bother a roommate. Our most-sent hospital arrangements:
Smiles All Around – $69.95. Green hydrangea and orchids in a low glass bowl.
Sterling – $74.95. A polished, compact arrangement.
Mike’s Designer Choice – from $79.99. Our designers choose the freshest flowers of the day.
Brilliance – $84.95. Bright, cheerful colors for a hospital room.
Blush & Bloom – $94.99. Soft pink and white, gentle and elegant.

What to Send When the Unit Doesn’t Allow Flowers

Send flowers home: schedule delivery for the day the patient is discharged.
Send to the family: flowers at home or where they are staying during a long hospital stay.
Choose a non-floral gift: browse our gift sets, or send a digital gift card by email.
Wait for a room change: flowers are usually allowed once a patient moves from the ICU to a regular room.

Hospital Flower Delivery Houston FAQs

Can I send flowers to a hospital in Houston today?
Yes. Order by 1 PM, Monday to Friday, and Floral Concepts will deliver get well flowers to Houston hospitals the same day, including Houston Methodist, Memorial Hermann, HCA Houston Healthcare and St. Luke’s Health locations.
Are flowers allowed in Houston hospital ICUs?
Usually not. Memorial Hermann and several HCA Houston Healthcare hospitals state that fresh flowers are not permitted in intensive care units. Send flowers once the patient moves to a regular room, or send them home.
What information do I need to send flowers to a hospital?
The patient’s first and last name, the hospital name and campus, the room number if you have it, and your phone number.
Do you deliver flowers directly to the patient’s room?
We deliver to the hospital, and at most Houston hospitals staff or volunteers take the flowers from the front desk to the patient’s room.
What happens if the patient is discharged before the flowers arrive?
We call you and redeliver the flowers to the patient’s home. Some hospitals return flowers to the florist once a patient has left, so always include your phone number.
What are the best flowers to send to a hospital?
Compact, lightly scented arrangements in a vase, such as roses, hydrangeas, carnations and gerbera daisies. Large arrangements are harder for staff to deliver and for patients to take home.
Can I send balloons to a Houston hospital?
Latex balloons are widely restricted because of allergies. Some hospitals allow foil balloons outside intensive care, but many ICUs allow no balloons at all, so check first.
Do you deliver to hospitals outside central Houston?
Yes. We deliver to hospitals in Katy, Sugar Land, Cypress, Tomball, Kingwood, The Woodlands, Clear Lake, Pearland and Baytown.
Can I send flowers to a Texas Medical Center hospital?
Yes. We deliver to every hospital in the Texas Medical Center. See our Houston Medical Center flowers page for TMC delivery details.
Can I send flowers to the nurses who cared for my family?
Yes. Thank-you flowers for a nurses’ station are a thoughtful gesture. Check that flowers are allowed on the unit, then address the order to the unit name and floor.
